Sexing my Queen Arabesque?

I got my 3 Queens from my fishie store! 2 look great, 1 has that "starvation" problem that we were discussing in another forum. The fishie store told me if it dies, they would give me store credit (I explained the who sunken tummy thing).

I will take pictures of them tonight - they are all VERY active and swimming in their new environment and seem to be loving it.

I did the tank with a bubbles, strong filter, fine sand bottom, 2 caves, and a some thicker leaved plastic plants (to give good cover). I think this is a good environment for them. All my chemicals seem to be in check with what they like (according to the cat-a-log) and the temp is where it should be. So in THEORY, these should do great (aside from the one who looks like he may be a lost cause).

If I get pics - can someone help me sex them?

First of all, let me wish you the best of luck with your new L260's.

Now for the "hard part" - I have to tell you that the pictures on your web-site are a bit hard to use for sexing for a couple of reasons:
1. It's best to have a single fish in each picture with clear numbering of which fish is which.
2. To make good "sex identification", the fish should be photographed from above on a contrasting background (i.e. dark fish against white or very light background). A photo straight from above the fish (dorsal view) and a side-view of the fish is a good way [I think this is called "lateral view"]. Sometimes a photo from "underneath" will be helpfull too - technically that's called "ventral view"

If I were to do this, I would capture all the fish into a bucket/bag/etc. Then take one fish into a small white container (such as an ice-cream tub), and take the relevant photos. Then release the fish back into it's normal tank. Take a photo of a piece of paper inbetween each fish, so that you know when you started the next fish.

For L260, I think Dorsal view is really the important one.

Best of luck.

Thanks Mats - I'll do that. They are real easy to catch and the one (the 1st photo that has weird blotches in his pattern) will hand feed. I'll take new pictures of them and hopefully that will help.

I did get some cool little caves this weekend too - and each one has made a home of their own!
