My beloved S. Eupterus, Shadow, has suffered some beatings from new tankmates. His beautiful streams are gone from his dorsal and tail and I'm sure he has developed fin rot. The research I've done on meds indicate doses should be different for scaleless fish like cats. Anyone, please advise on which med and dose for my fish. He's about 12cm not including tail. I was leaning toward Spectragram or Melafix.
Thanks!
PS. I'm putting him in an isolation tank (10gal) first thing in the morning.

Typically torn and tatered fins can usually be fixed with good water quality by doing a lot of water changes. Putting him in his own tank is a good start to stop the beatings. Since its only a 10 gallon tank its not too difficult to do a 30% water change daily for a week. After that he should really start looking a lot better.

If things seems to be getting worse than better then Melafix is what I use. Make sure you have a lot of aeration if using Melafix. It really seems to depleat how much oxygen the water will hold.

Thanks!
Although, I beleive bacteria has already gotten the upper hand as one of his pelvic fins has blood red streaks.
Would you still start with just water changes?
Anyone else?

Making water changes never hurt anyone... [ok, so there MAY be some rare cases of water changes being bad, but I certainly don't think this is one of them].

If you have Melafix at home, and you have a good supply of circulation/air to the tank, I'd add it at the same time. If you don't, do the water change now, then add Melafix when you can get it.

There's another thread nearby that talks about badly damaged Synodontis - they are quite strong by what I've read...
