Picked a couple up at a LFS this weekend, labled 'Bristlenose'. There were a couple sparring in the tank, they had bristles behind their mouth and below their eyes that pointed straight out while 'in battle'. They are 2 1/2" long, any idea on which type?

Thanks for the quick response :)

Given their size can I assume both are female (they look the same)?

Probably, but I'd like to see them a bit bigger before I'd be 100% sure.

Unfortunately, the development of bristles does depend on a lot of factors, and some will be "late developers" and others "early developers".

However, I'd make it 80% sure that yours are female. I wrote a long post on the subject of determining sex on these:

Jools: would it make sense to put this in Shane's world?

Mats,

The FAQ might be a better place or the CotM with a link from the FAQ. If you could condense into a word document and email it to me that'd "get it in the queue".

Cheers,
