Picture counting not working...

If you view the genus page, it shows "No image available" for almost all species - although once you reach a particular species, it's fine - you can see all the usual images.
My guess is that something gone wrong with the bit that figures out how many pictures each genus has...
Example:
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/G_4.PHP
I also tried Panaque, with the same result, so it's nothing specific to Ancistrus.

Also, next is broken on the "walking" through the images, and the image x of y doesn't do the right thing either (says "4 of 4", then you do previous, it says "3 of 3", never mind that there's another 6 pictures...).
It's probably related, hence a comment on the same subject - but I thought I'd point it out in case it's actually a different (sub)problem.

There's almost no pictures in the cat-elog.

Funky,
No, that's not right - there's plenty of pictures in the Cat-eLog, it's just that the function that figures out how many there are for most fish doesn't actually figure out anything at all - it returns zero.
If you go here:
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/amphilii/G_123.PHP
it lists lots of species with "no image available", but if you actually go to
you will see two pictures of this fish.
So, the pictures are there, but they are not being counted...

Makes it a little difficult to id a fish without a quick reference. I don't want to go into every L # to see what plecos I have.

Yes, and it's not SUPPOSED to be like that. I'm not sure why Jools hasn't fixed it yet, but I'm sure that it's either:
1. He's got enough to work for a living, and not enough time left after work to fix the web-site.
2. It's tougher to fix than it would seem for an outsider.
3. A combination of 1 and 2.
Remember that Jools has to work for a living - you know food and housing and such, AND so that he can pay for the web-sites running costs. We get to enjoy a great site for it.

Why not? You're the one that's supposed to be interested in finding out what fish you have....
I'm sure you don't mean to, but the tone of your statement is almost insulting towards Jools, which he doesn't deserve at all imo. I totally agree with Mats in the above post.

I can't view any pics.
The count seems to work ok, but with each pic i get a "......jpg doesn't exist"

I think Jools has just been fixing things, so maybe you got in halfway through the change and something that is mixed up (i.e. old version of one file and new version of another). Try again now - I just tried several different entries in the Cat-eLog, and they all works just fine, including seeing the thumbnails for each species in the genus thumbnails, as originally was reported broken in this thread.

Now I see the names of the images, and the links work, but none of the images themselves.

ginosanti: What browser are you using - and what species/genus in the Cat-eLog? I've tried several different species in in both Firefox and IE 6, and all works just fine for me.

Works perfectly here on both Firefox and IE. Sounds like something is broken in your browser, not here at PC. A common problem is that you're changed the setting in your internet options to "don't show pictures" or you're using some form of web accelerator that is blocking them. Either way, it doesn't sound like Jools is the cause ;).

A rightclick > view source on an image (firefox) gives this:
Warning: md5_file(y:\planetcatfish.com\jpg\loricariidae\panaque_sp(l204)2.jpg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/.heathcote/webcat/planetcatfish.com/scripts/catscan.php on line 205

Not an expert on this, but this seems to be on te server side. But the fact that others can view the thumbnails contradicts that.

Yupp, that looks like it's a script looking at the local network for a file (local network drive y:) which isn't available on your machine. I can do the same thing, and it's not failing... So something is different between your setup and mine, but not sure what...

1) I never claimed that he had NOTHING else to do.
2) I never stated that he wasn't fixing it.
3) Look at 1 and 2.

So are you questioning my liking or disliking plecos? Or are you questioning me about insulting Jools? I'm sure Jools will handle th problem, as he always does. I just bought several new plecos and wanted to try and id them quickly is why I didn't want to go into every L number available to sort out which one is which. You all seem a little irratable around here.

No.

No.
I'm questioning your patience. In your post of last Sunday you write: "I will have to do some research on which ones I have", which is quite contradictory to "I wanted to try and id them quickly is why I didn't want to go into every L number available to sort out which one is which".

Come on Funkyj! When you get (more or less) negative replies from two persons, you can't say "You all".

Oh brother. Is this, or is this not the suggestions and bugs thread of this forum? I was saying what the "bug" was and now I'm on the chopping block. Good grief.

I'm not sure where I (and Marc) got the impression that you were impatient, but I guess we both misread your post. Sorry about that. Can we close the subject now?

The same goes for me. I haven't been at my best the last few days because of the cancellation of the Raubwelse trip and the funeral (which will be in two hours), so if I have been too sharp in my replies towards Funkyj, I'm sorry for that.

Well done everybody for being so damn genial!
Something of a combination of (a) me on a steep learning curve and (b) Scotland beating England at the rugby (hence the Sunday hangover) and (c) pressure on time caused me to make several changes that didn't work out. (d) I was travelling in parts of Scotland that didn't allow me to easily connect to home and fix things at the beginning of the working week.
Actually two issues: (a) a new size guide page for the CSG which I am working on reset all the image counters and it took a couple of days to figure that out (b) the PHP script that renders all images was amended to email me when an image is requested that no longer exists - it did do that for the live and my test version of the site, but I wanted it just to be live. That change messed up the ability to view images.
All sorted now, apologies for the hassle but good to know the site's important!
Jools
