Is anyone keeping this cat? I had one go through the store that I work at and just fell in love with the tank mate eating monster (it ate atleast 2 royal clown knifes that were of equal length and tried to bend a gar in half to swollow it). I'm trying to see if there is a source of young cats of this species and if anyone has even seen these in the U.S. as juvs. The one we had at the store was already pretty close to topped out.

I just thought I'd mention that there's actually a pretty good amount of info in the Cat-eLog: . And for .

A forum search reveals quite a few threads containing C. fowleri, although I didn't go through to see if they are anything of value...

From the descriptions, it doesn't sound like a fish I'd like to keep, as it grows over a foot long and can't have any tank-mates... If I had a big enough tank, I think I'd still prefer something that can be kept with other fish without fear of the other fish's life. But that's me, and I'm not telling anyone else what to keep - cause I wouldn't take it from someone else what I should keep!

Easy, sid, easy. I was just trying to make a joke. Not trying to envoke the wrath of any forum-goers. Crickets would be a reference to the old gag about no one being in the audience, by the by. Some times if you make people laugh, they respond. The same can also be said about upseting them, or so it would seem.
Mat: There is some information on these guys on the Cat-elog, but I really would like to find out how to get a juv. I also did a search and read most the apurensis posts and some of the fowleri. As far as the lack of tank mates, they have enough personality to be given a spp. tank. I am really trying to find out were people have gotten them from. I have only seen one and, as noted, he was a 13" fish-devouring monster when the store got it. I just want a few inch fish-devouring monster that I can grow.

*note: Many of the forum posts on these guys references their habit of swallowing fish their own size. How can you not love that.
