Hi. Just bought 5 of these fish. I think i have 3 males and 2 females...are the males with the stripes/dots along their body? while the female just looks similar to C. adolfoi?
Anywayz...wha'ts the breeding plan for these guys? Water chemistry, sex ratio etc???
thanks

C. nijsseni are very variable in colour pattern and unlike most of the so called 'elegans' group the colour variation between the sexes if indistinct. If the fish are all in good condition then take a look at them from above and you will see the difference quite easily, the females ahould be very plump around the ventral fin area.

the colours for males and females are the same??
er...the guy at my lfs said that the nijsseni's have different sex colours. the males are the ones that look like the one in the picture, with a stripe or dots along its body...but the females just have an upper body stripe and a face mask, much like adolfoi...is the guy right???

No,
As I said the colour pattern of C. nijsseni is vary variable, they range from what you describe as a elegans with C. adolfoi colour to the on I have shown, there are some that have even darker more mottled markings. They will all breed together so you could easily breed a plain female with a dark mottled male, or the other way round. You cannot diferenciate this species by colour pattern because of it colour diversity.
