Ok I realize that you can use cf when identifying a similar sp. What exactly does cf stand for?

Bronzefry (Amanda)with the help of others is compiling definitions for the
Glossary which is under HELP! in the toolbar.

No, spp. is just the abbreviation of species (in the plural).

cf. ("confer")and aff. ("affinis") are commonly confused in the hobby. Basically, think of cf. as signifying that a fish is probably the same as a described sp. but the identification needs to be confirmed. aff. on the other hand means probably related to a described sp. but different. For example, LDA 68 could be called Panaque aff. maccus.

You know I've seen aff, but I don't think the light went on and I just assumed cf.
I could see where it causes problems. It kills me that there are still fish on my list that don't have identification yet.
