I have a red fin blue eyed pleco. I Looked at planet catfish and they give a decription but no L number. I am trying to find another one but can't find anything using fish name and though searching with l number would help. Anyone know the L number or know were i could find another one?

I don't think there is one. L-numbers are only used for species that haven't got a scientific description, and although the correct identity of the Blue-Eyed Panaque isn't entirely certain, it has been sold under the names of Panaque suttoni or Panaque suttonorum, but it's most likely that has been seen [at least if we believe Shane Linder, and I personally see no reason NOT to do that]. Either way, since there IS a scientific description, there's no L-number needed.

From what I understand, this fish comes from an area in Colombia where "visitors" are not welcomed by either drug-manufacturers or guerilla (or maybe both?), and I've also heard that chemicals have been leaked into the water and killed most of the fish - but even if they weren't killed, you'd probably end up so if you tried to fish for one...

Good luck hunting for one - they do turn up once in a while on places like http://www.aquabid.com - and fetch reasonable prices, like $500-1000 or so.

Doh! Yes, that fish probably should have a L-number, but I guess it's a question of DATZ or whoever is in control of L-numbers to get info about it and publish one.

Yes zenyfish is correct that is the fish. I might have been lucky to trip across him and yes he was pricy but he is so prettttty and he had a cool personality just really like another. I was under the impression that this one came from a diffrent area that the Panaque suttoni or Panaque suttonorum. I have been watching for an l number for a long time and they are not putting it up or he doesn't have one. IS there someone that handles the l numbers and photos on planet catfish that could be contacted on the matter?

I beleive DATZ (Deutsche Aquarium und Terrarium Zeitung or something like that - I got it wrong last time, so it's probably wrong this time too - German Aquarium and Terrarium Magazine is the translation of the above anyways) issues L-numbers, but it's dependant on them getting sufficient information about a particular fish. This usually happens when some importer supplies the company with the information - which perhaps the importer of the above mentioned fish hasn't done.

And no, I don't think that fish is P. suttoni/suttonorum, or P. cochliodon for that matter.
