Dear Catfish lovers,

Let me introduce myself, I am Mr. Francy Kakkassery,
Ph.D, working as a Reader in the Research and
Post-graduate Department of Zoology, St. Thomasâ??,
College, Trichur. Kerala,India I got a freshwater catfish with
total length of 6.5cm, and the peculiarity is the
complete absence of dorsal fin. But, the ventral fin
is well developed like in Wallago sp. The colur of this specimen is brown , and collected from open well, a depth of 10meters
Anybody has any idea of this type specimen?
expecting your kind replies.

Sincerely yours,

It doesn't look like any silurid I am familiar with. Silurichthys comes to mind, but that genus is: (1) not found in India (it is restricted to Sundaland) and (2) possesses a dorsal fin. The other possibility is Pterocryptis, which is found in India, but the confluent caudal fin and the lack of a dorsal fin make it unlikely to be this as well.

I would say it's an undescribed species in possibly an undescribed genus.
