A friend of mine brought me this little guy at work tonight because her son's fish are dying at a rate of 1 a month or so and she didn't want it to keep happening! (There was also a lone tiger barb if anyone is interested, I don't have a school to add him to!) He/she is 3.5 inches long from nose to tail, she had him approx 6-12 months, other than that she thinks she paid "like $10" for it are her words. An id and any info would be great..he is acclimating to my 20 gal Q tank right now.

Here are 3 updated pics I snapped this morning to show how his coloring is changing....for the better I hope! After talking to the previous owner in more depth she probably had him a year, and he has been the same size since she got him. She did say she told the store she didn't want one that would outgrow the tank she had and pointed out the size of her tank before her purchase.



So far he is doing fine and is getting less skittish, and I am looking forward to seeing him/her in tip top condition!

Looks like a baby Gibby to me.

it might be a common, but the orange network on him points to a Gibby.
it's a wee lil' cute plec for now, but be adviced that it grows to be some sort of algae-scraping baby whale in your tank

Thanks for the info....I will make sure he becomes a happy healthy plec and find him the right home. For now he can stay here and be spoiled a bit along with my others.

A baby Pterygoplichthys

Any idea on how fast this little goomer will grow? As I stated, he will be in 20 gallon Q tank for awhile to make sure all is healthy, he can live in my 64 for awhile, but even that won't be good for the long run. We already have a common in the 90, and this future tankbuster will be too much for the 75 with the rock formations, so he will be needing a new home in the future. Anyone who is close by is welcome to him once I make sure he is happy and healthy....but life with me for right now was definetely better than what he had previously. I will see to it that he/she is taken care of properly, poor guy!

I wouldn't worry .... if he's already 6-12 months old he's been so badly mistreated and stunted that he's hardly going to grow large.
At 12 months old a gibby should be approaching a foot long.
And that fish looks to be in very poor condition.

He is already doing better as of last night,out cleaning the glass instead of hiding, and actually his coloring changed and is quite a bit darker with less of the "leopard" looking spots. Today is a day full of doctor's appts with my Dad and going into work early, so I will try to get some new pictures of him tomorrow.
I hope he isn't stunted or too mistreated to come around and become healthy, I will do my best to spoil him and see how things go for the time being. Some good food should help him right along.

They will restart growth in good conditions, I rescued one from a tank (being kept at 90 degrees!) and it started to grow again after a few months. It doubled in size ultimately.
