Hi,
I have just introduced my oscar to an asian redtail, will they be able to get along ? the guy in the pet shop said they would be fine together as they are both quite large and will get alot larger.

any info and advice wiould help, thanks.

Redtallica; you'd better heed the advice in that article.....

first off: it wasn't written after keeping one Asian Red Tail by one fishkeeper, but after keeping many of those by various experienced people.

second: why deliberately ignore an article? because it doesn't say what you want to hear and does what you didn't?
or are you one of those who only listens when it agrees with you, nevermind the fish's health and happiness?

I think it's a bad sign too that
A: you already bought both fish
B: you already put them in one tank

and only then took the effort of looking (demanding is more like it) for information about the whole thing.

should be in reverse; now you're likely to get a messy situation on your hand and as long as you ignore pretty well setup articles we can't help you very much.

If you do a forum search for Hemibagrus wyckloides, I think you'll find about half a dozen posts saying the same thing that the Cat-eLog says... It's not a fish that is suitable to keep together with anything else, becuase it will attempt to eat it... No matter what it is, or how big it is, unless you have a HUGE (heated) pond with enough hiding space to hide some really big fish - and I'm thinking ponds that are just the pond-side of lakes, really... And even then I'd doubt that all the bigger fish would be OK all the time...

This is nor from personal experience, but I have been a member of this forum for a while now, and I have made the said search once or twice, and come to the conclusion that ARTC is not a "community" fish in any meaning of the word "community" - it's a loner, aggressive and mean... Putting other fish with them will lead to the other fish's death - no doubt.

Follow others advice on the topic, or sell the fish to somone with a BRAIN!

The store you bought the fish from deserves a slap up the head for selling the pair together in the first place.

Can always devide the tank till a better solution comes along..

I was told by someone who supposedly knows about these fish that they would be ok together,also I did not DEMAND anything,I asked !

Also it is not a problem seperating these fish before there is any harm done.

Obviously to someone who
A: first buys incompatible fish, then starts asking for advice and bumps his post after just a few hours (!). patience is a virtue
B: puts down a good article on the planet as an "opinion" because he doesn't like what it says; while the article has been written and adapted to hard science and proven facts by dozens of fishkeepers.
C: will wait for calamities to happen and only then will act (separate the fish)
D: starts caling people names only days after entering the forum-community.

I guess this sums up the facts quite fairly.

sure did, but I never started bumping posts in a few hours or calling people names when they commented on my actions or gave advice I didn't like.
