Hello Catfish Keepers.

Have upgraded to a 450ltr tank and am keeping 5 severums 2 limas shovelnoses a striped and spoted dora and also want to keep a para plec, would the 2 jaguar cats be suitable, my tanks well planted with loads of hiding spaces slate caves and bogwood. keep it at 7 although i could now drop it to 6.8 and 26degres. have been through numerous plec ideas and other pims but think the jaguar would be an ideal cat in the tank. How active are they on the scale of my spotted dora hardly ever commming out of his hole to my stripped dora always out when the pellets drop. also any other info on behaviour would be great.

Liosomadoras should be no problem in your tank. Initially they are shy, but after some time they can be seen when fed.
However, they won't become active during the day.

They will be fine in there, they are really good at looking after themselves. Ive got three similar false jaguar cats which are basically the same, i'd be more worried about them doing each other in than the limas. Any how good luck finding them I've been searching for years for real jaguar cats and had no luck. If you find some and they have more please post location so I can get some. When I started keeping fish about 20 years ago I saw them all the time and also blue eyed panaques but now both species seem to evade me.

I agree - Jaguars should be fine in that set up. Mine (L.Oncinus) is kept on it's own & is active during the day within 20 seconds of tablet food going into the tank. It like s my unlit (except by daylight or room lights) tank. She is quite a swimmer in the evnings though exploring every nook & cranny but quite secretive in the day. Do you have these already in a separate tank or have you seen some for sale? They do appear to be really scarce these last few years & i have been debating pooling individuals with a contact for a breeding program to supply demand, so'd be interested to know if there are any for sale in the uk at the moment?

The chances of finding Liosomadoras are much higher than finding Panaque suttonorum. Rumour has it that they have become extinct in the wild. That's probably the reason they've evaded you. And when they are for sale (see catfishes wanted/for sale section) at such prices, you'd better evade them imo.

I found the blue eye eventually, I passed it on to phil aspinall, the just catfish guy, he's been after one for years, and I'm not really into loricarids, although I have recently obtained a pair of L047 which I am going to attempt to breed.
I think the reason for the lack of blue eyed panaques is political, as in the area they are from is too unstable for comercial ventures, or thats the rumour I heard. If it is true there are probably loads of them just swimming around loving life.
I am based in south wales but have been known to travel as far as aberdeen in search of fishy's so anywhere in the uk thats got jaguars would be good news for me.
