Surprisingly (to me) the first non-loricarid is Sisoriidae () at 25th place

L204 is the most popular fish with 36601 hits at the time of writing this - and that's 1.33% of all hits. So the number of hits is pretty well spread in the Cat-eLog. At the bottom of the top 100, there are around 4600 hits.

Doing some reverse math shows that the pages that aren't in the top 100 have 400000 hits, more than 10 times more hits than the #1 most hit page - so there's quite a few hits on the remaining 1500 pages too...

Have you had a look at the page for your favourite fish lately? Do you see anything wrong with it? If so, report it in the "Bugs and Suggestions" forum.

not that I understand all what you're saying, but it's tempting to hit Phyllonemus typus a couple o' million times, just out of general principle.

Well, I just found it "interesting" which families where at the top of the Top 100 cat-elog entries. And I didn't expect the ones I've listed - aside from Loricariidae being at the top.

I'm sure you're joking about hitting a million times on the same page just to get it to the top.

I'm also a bit surprised that there weren't more Corydoras species in the top (of all things, Brochis multiradiatus is the second "cory"), and Pimelodus pictus is at 39th place - most fish-shops have several species of Corydoras and very few don't carry pictus cats...

I've got answers for all these as I watch these numbers quite closely.

Ictalurids and Silurus glanis get a lot of hits from fishermen. L204 is a very common one to find for sale and there are so many plecos in the list because of fashion and also they are exposed to more hits by having the l-number pages too (they don't count, but the give folks another opportunity to access that page).

CotM features and fish that stay a long time on the front page because I don't do an update for a long time also skew the numbers.

Any more questions that I can try and figure out why?

My original reason for the post wasn't to ask any questions, just a "look what's here" sort of thing.

I think the reason for the Callichtyidae being lower on the list is probably because there's more different species in books etc that have been around for yonks, compared to "L-numbers" that are more recent and less well-described in your average aquarium literature. Not sure if that's a reason or not...
