My first success at capturing Petricola eggs...

I have microworm ready to go...
However, no brine shrimp.
Should I consider another food for these guys?
Egg yolk or liquid food as an alternative?

The pic shows the eggs the first evening. These will likely hatch tomorrow or tomorrow evening.

Microworms and crushed spirulina flake should be good.

spirulina is fine for petricola's, but for fry it's far too veggie.

you can buy stuff like cyclopeeze or 'artemia quick' wich are dust-like foods.
dunno about the brand -those differ per country- but with a bit of searching (you have 3-4 days to search! eggs hatch in 2-3 days, fry lives off yolk for 24 hours) maybe you can find "de-shelled artemia eggs".
that stuff is superb for baby Syno's!

it has all the benefits of feeding live artemia larvae, but it omits the hatchery mess.

I have a couple of wrigglers with egg sacks now....(less than 48 hrs)

Very tiny, the eggs are about a millimetre in diameter.

I've got some de-cap brine shrip eggs & micro-worms ready for when the egg sacks are used up.

wait with the feeding till the fry is visivly searching for food; otherwise you just pollute the water.
fry at this stage is extremely sensitive to pollution and bacterial growth.

and don't overfeed; it's best to feed several times a day than everything in 1 go.
btw a secure way to avoid rotting eggs and foodleftovers: add a few Ramshorn snails and/or Trumpetsnails. they are harmless -even to eggs- but do clean up dead fry, unfertilized eggs (that would fungus otherwise) and leftover food.

I did that many times; these snails are truly harmless, they won't touch the babies.

Has anyone else had this experience
I have Ramshorn snails & would not have ever of thought using them to clean up unfertilized eggs.
My Ramshorn snails are a menance in the sense that they will eat anything.... including a sponge filter. I would think they would eat the good eggs too

The only thing my bowls of marbles under the flowerpots have collected thus far are MTS. I certainly hope they don't eat "good" eggs, or I'll never see any.

I'll give the snails a try after I'm convinced I can successfully spawn consistantly.
