I think not; they breed true in that color as far as I know; they're very common here and most are captive bred.
Unless I'm grossly mistaken, dying fish is more common in the far East (probably eastern Europe too??) and not with the local fishbreeders in Europe/Uk/US

Haven't hung around European pet stores, but I see plenty of dyed fish in US ones. East Asians may be fond of dying fish, but they have no monopoly on this practice.

For my part, I've always believed "better dead than red!"

I'm not sure I understand your post, Graeme. As for my last post, I was commenting not on your fish but on SG_Eurystomus's comment that "dying fish is more common in the far East (probably eastern Europe too??) and not with the local fishbreeders in Europe/Uk/US". What I said was simply that I see plenty of dyed fish in the US.

hi I agree with all the dyeing of fishes with colors... There are alot of different types of fishes here in asia that are dyed!! But the L10a is the original color of an Loricariid.. :) I hope I could get some of those on my next shipment :)

I have had one for a couple of years now and it is still that colour. I think if it were dyed, the dye would have broken down or been excreted long before that.
