Adontis?

I bought a plec the other day at my local LFS. He was just too cool to leave there...so I bought him.

He's black with little white spots all over, LONG lyre tail. They had him marked as an Adontis - but I can't find anything in the cat-elog under that name.

He has a very strang head - there is an area that is very dinosaur-like behind his eyes for about 1" that has what looks like "plates" versus being the same texture as his body. I'm trying to get pics of him - but he hides quite well. He's about 9" long without the lyre tail. Big guy! He seems to get along just fine with his tank mates.

Anyone know of any black plecs with white spots that have lyre tails that I can go and look up and see if they are my guy? I'll try to get pictures of him tonight.

THose pictures don't quite look like my guy....I'll take pictures of him tonight and post them. My guy is quite different than those in the pictures. He does have the spiney things all over his body though, but his head very different looking......

If he really is an Adontis.....once we get him identified.....I'll keep him until he is too big for me...and then find him an aquarium to go live at.

My guy's head is more like this one:
[Mod edit: using persistant descriptive link. --Mats]

The picture in the second row, first picture on the left - a close up of a head - that shows what my guy's head is like with that "scale" look on the back of his head.

But he is black with white spots. These pictures all show solid colored ones.

I'll get pictures tonight....

Acanthicus hystrix is almost identical to A. adonis, except that even the young doesn't have spots - so if yours has white spots and the same shape as A. hystrix, I'd say it's A. adonis.

Hypnotoad,

You've been asked about this privately, now I am asking you a second time publicly.

Please keep your third person nonsense to the speak easy, it's just plain irritating and smacks of high handedness out here.
