Could use some practical experience with sexing C. gossei to be sure it's worth trying to condition the 4 that I have. All help appreciated.

Generally, the females are noticably plumper than the males.

Bob,

One thing to remember with C. gossei is they like their environment on the warm side and are best at temperatures around 80 deg F, If its not warm enough they won't breed.

Ian,

I run my tanks at pretty much the same water parameters: 2kH; 4-5 dH; 6.2-6.4pH and 82-for this tank-degrees. I'm feeding a variety of foods, including CBW--which they really go for and will try to pull black worms out of the discus' mouth. Right now the tank is bare bottom but I'm going to set it up with a profile bottom and plenty of plants. I'm really quite into planted tanks. My lady friend is a potter so I went to her studio and made some clay spawning tunnels that came out of the kiln last evening. I'll let you know if something good comes out of it all. I'm also setting up a tank for 8 L-177's. I already had the Gold Nuggets when I read somewhere that they've never been bred in tanks. Glad I like them so much just for their looks....
