Here's my 400l amazon(ish) tank, all the fish are amazonian apart from some young guppies and a random loach who seems to have sneaked in somehow (god only knows how, I didn't put him there ) Population currently is: 3 juvenile discus, a pair of apisto. cacatuoides, a single apist. borelli, 8 tetras, 7 hatchets, 12 assorted corys, 18 juvenile guppies, aforementioned invader loach, a pair of hoplos, a brachyrhamdia imitator and a meersi(?), a young adult ancistrus sp.3, a juvenile sp.3 albino, a couple of panaque maccus, a juvenile panaque nigriventris, an unidentified peckolita and a gibbiceps about quarter grown (going to move to a 2,000litre when he gets bigger).

Thank looks like a nice setup with a good mix of fish, though I would add a bit more wood to in the corners and hide the heater! ;)

How does the Brachyrhamdia imitator fit in with the corys, does it follow them around much or keep to itself?

Yep, nice tank. Just FYI all three of the dscus are tank raised. I promise.

Looks nice. It does need the finishing touch of a dark background to my mind.

Yes, that's a good one. The tank will looks much "warmer" and your fishes will show nicer colours, if only because they are more at ease. Before rushing to the LFS to spent (much) money and having to put the tank upside down, try a large piece of black paper and stick it on the outside.
BTW: what are the dimensions of your tank?

Thanks for the comments! The imitator is a bit of a lurker, he hangs about with the meesi most of the time but has the odd sally with the corys. A dark blue background is on the cards, I'm waiting for Dia de los
Reyes to see if they bring me one (catholic country, got to wait 'til 6th of jan for christmas presents) ditto more wood. I had my doubts about the "wildness" of the third discus, so not at all surprised if he is tank raised. I'd like to add another catfish too but I'm not sure if the tanks big enough, I'm trying to track down either a platydoras costatus or an ancanthodoras cataphractus and maybe will add another discus too.

Amazing. My eyes must be deceiving me for the tank looks smaller. Probably because of the cupboard it stands on.
My parents used to have one too, but its doors were just 45 cm long....

I confess to never having actualy measured it until you said that, and you're right It's interior measurements are: 142.7 X 44.5 X 37.8, coming out at 240 litres instead of 400... That's what you get for being lazy and taking someones word for it

Measure it before buying

and don't forget to measure the house as well, especially doors and the like!

my last tank is a big erm huge, and we had to get the frontwindow out of the house, remove all the doors and half of the furniture.

it got in with less then 1 cm spare on each side.......wich can be a bit too exiting when you're pushing and shoving against what essentially turned out to be a piece of glass about 350kg/700pounds......

so better measure what you and the house can cope with and then buy it instead of backwards.
