I just purchased a synodontis labled as a longirostris at about 3-4" It looks similar to the pictures on the site but not exactly the same. Was wondering if it is a hybrid of the longirostris species will it still get as large, up to 20"or will it stay around 6-8"? Also how fast do these guys grow on average? Never kept one of these before any info would be great thanks.

A photo would help us determine if its genuine or a hybrid & the size will ultimately be limited to tank space available. I personally haven't kept longirostris for a great length of time & sold them on before they passed the 6" mark, but do know one reached 16-18" in a 6*2*2 - this was a genuine longi. Hybrids size would probably be dependant upon species used to create them

Check to see if it's
. If it's a genuine
longirostris, it should have a long snout, and more elongated body compared to
ocellifer.
They don't grow terribly fast, but will eventually reach 60 cm. Their feeding habit differs from most synos, because they will take floating food by suspending themselves vertically, and will learn to take food from your fingers.
