Hi guys,

It's me again with another unidentified cory.



It's about 3 cm at the moment and is very active. Swims all over the place and I thought the markings look a little like C. gracilis, but was told that it could be a C. pestai (which I don't see in Aqualog).

Would appreciate if you guys could share your expertise/comments again.

I think it looks more like the C. pestai from your site. So C. pestai it is.

By the way, what is this "elegans" grouping? Where can I get more information on this grouping and how they came to be? Seem like there are 8 species in it. There is also another grouping call the "Aeneus" grouping which has 25 species.

A quick search on Google with corydoras, elegans/aeneus and group does not yield much infomation on these 2 groupings.

The grouping was originally set out by Nijssen & Isbruecker in the 1970's, and based on geographical locations, this method of grouping was soon proved inadiquate and was abandoned. I use a grouping systen which is based in the body shape and the 'elegans group fishes are quite distinct in body form making it fairly easy to group together. At the moment ther are about 10 that fall easily into the group, the two that I have not linked in are C. latus and C. nijsseni.
