I was in a store today and they had four Corydoras labeled as ?Blue Cories? that I believe were similis. Has anyone else seen them labeled this way? Also how common are these fish? They had them priced at $15 each because they were supposedly rare. I don?t mind paying that if it?s truly the case, but if they are seen fairly often I may pass. Then again I haven?t seen much besides paleatus and aeneus around here.

Hi. C. similis are most commonly referred to as the Smudge Pot Cory, but it is also shown as C. violetta on some exporter's lists and called the "Violet" Cory. I spawn this fish regularly and find that the average selling price is $8 to $10. Any fish is worth only what you are willing to pay for it. If I liked the fish and it was hard to get the out-of-the-ordinary specie in my area, I'd gladly pay $15. Seeing as how a group of 5 or 6 would be best, I guess that can be a bit pricey. I knew somebody would post a reply that would cost me money. They only have four of them so I?ll only be out about $60. I really don't mind paying that much for a fish, just want to make sure that I can't do better. Are they pretty common in your area? Does this fish have any unusual needs? Thank you.

Hi. They are not a specie that I have ever seen at an lfs. I would not say they were common. They have no special requirements and spawn frequently with no assistance from me. I'm sure you'll enjoy having them. - Frank

Well, instead of the similis, I went with these little guys. I think they will be a better fit in the 5.5g anyway. It started out as a group of six habrosus and two pygmaeus, but one of the smaller habrosus didn't make it. I would have got bigger groups, but this was all they had. I've got four more pygmaeus in a 75g, so I may move these two there, and try to find a couple more habrosus.
