Just joined this superb site, which I have often referred to for information. And to be nosey about whats going on in the catfish world. I've kept tropicals for over 25 years with a preference for catfish. First tank (5') has 5 gorgeous snowball baryancistrus LDA33 - biggest is around 6", they live happily with 5 glass knives and a satanoperca daemon. 2nd tank (4') has 3 jaguar cats -L Oncinus, all a good 7" and stunning, they live with 3 tatia galaxias between 3-4" and also 3 indian gouramies (they had to go somewhere...). 3rd tank (3') has 5 Corydoras davidsandsii, 1 Cory Imitator, and 1 Cory weitzmanni, plus a female emperor lacorteii tetra. 4th tank (5') has 8 Cory Robineae, 1 stardust? ancistrus (don't know the Lnumber), 4 male lacortei, 1 wild ramirezi, 6 flagtail dianema, 4 ottos and 8 glasscats. 5th tank (2') has 4 tatia reticulatus and 1 tapajos zebra L134.
Longterm I want to try breeding the Lda33, the Jaguars (stop laughing!) and the Dianema. Over the next few months the C Davidsandsii and the Lacortei emperors - a pretty tetra you don't often see. And maybe the tatia - in fact the galaxias were spawning in the LFS.
Well that's me..... I will have questions to ask and hope I can contribute. First is - does anyone want to sell to me their fully grown jaguar cat???

What gender are your L. oncinus? In other words: having three of them, why would you add any more?

I had previously included details in a different thread of the possibility of people loaning jaguars around for breeding purposes - to satisfy the current demand as they do seem a bit hard to come by. I have a lone female & have been looking for a male for a while. She did become egg bound one time & i don't see any reason for you not to be successful in spawning them provided you have a mix of sexes.

Thanks for the welcome guys. The 3 jags I have are almost certainly female - there's no noticeable gonopodium on them (are they very visible?) so Its males I'm after . Whenever I've seen spotted or striped doras in shops they seem to group together tightly, so its just a hunch that maybe jaguars need to be in a group to trigger breeding behaviour. Having said that , the 3 females each have their own cave and croak grumpily if disturbed by one of the others.
I'm just learning the ropes of fish photography, when I capture some decent pix of the cats I'll send them in.

We'll probably meet during one of the next days, so I'd rather tell you then what I know about L. oncinus. It saves some time, which is handy because my wife wants me to start packing right away
