Hi,
I have a small Channel Catfish in my garden pond, I just noticed that it has lost it's wiskers!! :(

Has anyone had this problem before and will it cause the fish any problems?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ash

Whilst it's not commonly asked about Channel cats, it's a fairly common question in general.

The answer is that the fish will grow new ones given good water conditions (and possibly removal of the source of the loss, e.g. sharp stones, barbel[1]-eating fishes, etc).

[1]Barbel is the technical name for "whisker". Not to be confused with "Barbells" used in a gym!

Hello again Mats,
I just went outside to check on it again and it's floating in the water, I think it's dead!!

I can't see anything else that is wrong with it, not physically anyway.

I'm very confused, we've had the water tested and it's fine.

I hate the idea that I've done something to wrong to have caused this. :(

Sorry to hear that. I'm by no means an expert on these fishes, and from what little I do know, I thought they were pretty hardy.
