Hey guys, I've recently acquired 4 adorable S. barbatum fy from my lfs. The guy assures me its genuine barbatum fry, and not kronei (which is the usual confusion).

However, since they're only fry, they haven't developed the characteristic black-gold colouring, the gold stripe on the muzzle of males, nor bristles either.

Does anyone here have pics of what barbatum fry should look like?

Hi. The correct name is S. barbatus. I have no idea how old your fry are, but here is a pic of one at 60 days. Hope this helps. - Frank

Ok, based on that pic, i think mine are easily about a couple of months old.

In the pic, the fry still has a roundish snout, but mine is already elongated. Out of the 4 fry, i think one is a male, coz he's slightly smaller than the rest, and his colour is darker too.

I'll try to get a pic soon, but in the meantime guys, anymore pics of older fry?

Actually, with S.barbatus, it's the other way around. The males are larger than the females. I thought the same thing initially. I bought a bag at auction and thought I had 5 males and 1 female.
