Hello all, Im new to this forum, I wish my first post would be already with a nice picture of the subject on it, but I couldnt help myself and write it before I can take a decent pic and post it, well, one of my tanks is a 55G soon-to-be-densily-planted (plants need to grow more for the tank to look dense yet)its a month and week old, and my second introduction to this tank after the colisa labiosa (2 females), is this pretty looking pl*co I found in my LFS, btw, I live in brazil, well it was sold to me as "blue ball pl*co* I asked the FS´owner and he told me and showed me in his loricaridae atlas book (I dont remember the actual title and author) that it was L068 species "ancistrinae sp" said to grow just up to 4 inches. here I find this great profile http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... es_id=1757

from the pic, its the exact same fish, if not some VERY similar. I promess a pic is coming soon, the maximmum size given here is significantly bigger, it even worries me, coz a 12 inches pl*eco in a densily planted 55G tank CAN give me some headache cant it?

well information on this fish seems to be very rare since it has not even been named yet.

I would appreciate any tips and warnings on tankmates, feeding (zucchini comes to mind?).

thank you in advance folks

regards

Hi,

L068 is one of the "mystery" l-numbers, it hasn't been imported since the original photo was taken. If it hadn't been for the fact you are in Brazil, I would have instantly discounted that your fish is L068. Probably.

Anyway, there are a few similar species, so, please do post lots of good pictures...

Jools

PS Welcome to the forum!

thank you!
and oh, I have not seen him eating anything yet, I tried algae waffers and cory meaty waffers, nothing.. but neverthless he is not shy, lots of hiding places but he hangs around much more in sight at the front, mostly on the floor, rarely on the glass.

I can't really tell from the pictures, but it doesn't look like L068 to me. That said, I really don't know what it is. The mouth looks a bit like a . We need more pics, this is an interesting one!

Try holding the camera a little further back from the tank, the shots appear to be out of focus because you are too close.

I think it is L030 or L031 because it looks flatter than a Hypancistrus and also the spots are more blueish than white.

Hi Jools,

yes, he DOES look flat, flat like a strong current pl*co
would look. Im still worried coz I havent seen him eating anything at all... althouh he is very active when the lights are off and I might have missed some action..

Didn't even think of L031, that sounds like a good match.
