I'm new to this site and a relative newbie when it comes to most catfishes. I've kept tropical fish off and on for about 50 years, mostly community tanks. Right now I have a modest 33 gal tank which houses a few catfish: 2 Corydoras sterbai and 2 C. aeneus (I had a school of 10 altogether, but had some problems and lost a bunch), 1 Ancistrus sp(3), and 2 Synodontis eupterus. The latter was not the smartest purchase, and I am planning to replace these with a small school of S. nigriventis if I can ever find them (and if I can find a good home for my current Syno's). I like the Syno's I have, but obviously my tank is a bit small for such big fish. Otherwise the tank has lots of bogwood and a number of plants. The other inhabitants are 5 clown loaches (which will force me to get a bigger tank anyway, but at least they grow a lot slower than the Syno's) and 4 Botia kubotai, plus a small school of black neons and some silvertip tetras. They all seem to get along except that the bushynose bullies the smaller Syno, and the bigger Syno bullies all the Corys (including possibly leaving bite marks on one of the C. sterbai - see post under African catfishes). Anyway, this is a great site and will make it so much easier to make informed decisions in the future. If anyone is from northern BC, please get in touch!
