I noticed this earlier when posting about .
Etymology
The ancistrini is a tribe of the subfamily hypostominae. At one time it was a subfamily, ancistrinae, but currently sits a little lower in the scheme of things. It\'s used here mostly for l-numbers that can\'t be placed into a currently valid genus. They may, for example, exhibit traits that places it halfway between two established genera or have features common to two genera that were previously thought to be unique.
I found another example in .
Identification
Pterygoplichthys can be identified by the number of rays in the dorsal fin. More than 10 indicates that it\'s a Pterygoplichthys. Most other plecos have 8 or fewer rays (in particular the larger Hypostomus species that are most likely be confused with Pterygoplichthys). L001 is the same as L022.

I've seen that - not sure if Jools wants me to manually edit or if he's working on some automagic resolution...

Mats,

I would appreciate you cleaning them up. I've had a look at the data and the issue appears restricted to genus level information (i.e. fix it once and it'll be sorted for all members of that genus).

However, the underlying cause is still a mystery but may be something to do with a bug in the data submission process but again at genus level only.

FYI,

I've noticed the same/similar thing happens when contractions are typed into the My Cats husbandry notes box.

For example, this: It's an interesting color morph.
Yields this: It\'s an interesting color morph.

And notice the slash goes the opposite way of the keyboard symbol.

Yes, something is "quoting" the single-quotes, and not removing the quote before displaying.

As it seems right now, new submissions will have these added "automagically", so it's pretty pointless trying to fix it, as they are going to come back again.

Jools, I can fix it, but first the submission stuff has to be fixed. If you want to send me some code to work on, please do so - I can try it out locally and make sure it works. Please include a database entry that shows the problem.

This has been fixed. Actually, the data stored is OK, it was just what was displayed backed to you when you clicked "Save & Publish" that was wrong.

I've fixed the slashes problem in the data submission page.
