Hello, I want buy a couple of Baryancistrus sp. L81 but I have some questions for you.Can I keep they with this catfishes: Hypancistrus sp. L340, Peckoltia sp. L39, Peckoltia vittata, Chaetostoma milesi, Farlowella acus, Otocinclus vittatus and Acanthopsis (the tank is a 155,6 gallons/576 litres size)? Do someone breed this catfish?How do I distinguish this fish from L18 and L177? This is a mainly vegetarian or carnivorous fish? This fish is offered at the cost of 32,6 $/24 euros/16 £:is it a good cost?How much cost this fish in your country?

Perhaps Chaetostoma milesi would be a good tankmate!
They both like strong current, and Chaetostoma milesi is not as territorial as the other species.

But, sure, you cant keep it with all the other catfishes - don't keep to many of them :!:

There have been some report of a breeding. In a quite big aquarium with large rocks and a strong current. They where laying their eggs between the rocks I think, but there are no images to confirm the report... but everyone don't have a good kamera to take photos, so I don't see any reason to mistrust the report.

You probably need to have a number of fishes, and afer time, as they grow, make a gruop of 1 male and 2- 3 females and hope for the best.

I wouldn't recommend keeping L18 and Chaetostoma in the same tank. The L18 will prefer much warmer water, 28'C+, whilst the Chaetostoma will prefer the lower 20s.

As to breeding, the fish needs to be fairly big, 6-8" inches. From what I've read, they are cave-spawners like almost all other Pleco's.

Their feeding should be mainly vegetarian with a bit of meat, particularly if you want to prepare them for breeding.

Hey, I have a L18 for not so long ago. So I cant give you too much info on it. But here is what I found. My GN extremely likes vegetables. I like to feed him with cucumber and Chinese Cabbage. I tried zucchini, but it doesnt last long in the water.
I bought my GN for $30 in San Francisco. But places further away from San Francisco can goes up to $50 a fish. So I think price at your place is decent.

Now I'm keeping in the tank this fish:2 Chaetostoma milesi (a male and a female), 2 Hypancistrus sp. L340 (a male and a female), 2 Peckoltia sp. L39 (a male and a female),2 Peckoltia vittata (a male and a female), 2 Acanthopsis (unknown), 2 Otocinclus vittatus (two couple) and 2 Farlowella acus (female). I have realize thath the Chaetostoma (contrary to rumors) they live very much good in a 24-26°C (78-82°F) water...so, could it be a good tankmate for my fishes?Thanks
