Hot tank!

Since aquiring our tank from my parents the temperature has shot up!
Their house was always quite cold whereas ours seems to be like an oven in the Summer (not much that can be done except air it in the evenings). A couple of days ago the gauge was showing about 28 degrees so I bought a new thermometer in case it was broken. It rose to 29 degrees so we unplugged the heater (which was on only 18 degrees anyway and the lowest it goes to!) but this evening its gone up to 30 degrees!
I just don't know how to cool the water short of putting ice cubes in there!!

Any help would be greatly apreciated

Thanks
Helen

Put some ice cubes in there!
what i do to keep the temperature to a minimum in my tanks *i have the same problem because i live in Texas, i keep the tank lights off almost 80% of the day, or else the tanks get really warm, see if that helps any

This problem has been discussed before. Read this thread.

Thanks
Wasn't sure if ice cubes (not being treated water) would cause a problem - guess its not that much water and I have water treatment stuff anyway which I could use if necessary but probably won't need it.
Off to the freezer then!
