Not a Gold Spot, but I have gold spots

I received this fish

from an importer 3 months ago. This fish was shipped in with Gold Spots, but I was told it was not one. He was quite washed out when I received him, but had colored up wonderfully within a few days at home. It is about 3" currently, black body with gold spots. Also, the edges of his fins trail off into a smoky white color on the corners. Any help identifying him would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure, but I'll take a shot at it.
Maybe Hopliancistrus sp. (L017)

Do you have some more pictures to show us? It's a little difficult to see what species it is on this pic.

Appears to be a Lasiancistrus sp., but it is one I am not familiar with.

What are "gold spots" exactly?
Knowing vaguely where they cam efrom might pin down an ID.
