The forum's dead, long live the forum

All~

I think it was 2002 or maybe 2001, but whenever it was, it was some time ago when this forum went live. It's been a great success in bringing the online catfish community together but it is time to upgrade. This post is just to say expect that in a matter of days (but certainly during this festive period) that the new forum will be unleashed.

It'll have a bug or two, it'll need a lot of work on layout and so on, but it will also have a bunch of new features and should keep us all happy, communicating and sharing info. for a few years to come.

All data and user accounts will be transferred, don't worry! I'll write more later, but if you try and access the forum and it's down, it's likely we are only a few hours away from go live!

Wish me luck...

Good luck !!!

I've seen a couple of post recently asking about the old classified section.

Maybe that could be brought back? It would increase the eye balls to this site, and with it advertising $$ (see Google).

Works fine. The "your species" pages were better before the "renewing" , the rest is equel to better.

Yes, I compeltely agree. I've not styled that page at all. Now the technical work is mostly done, there is some less technical styling to be done. But, before then, I need to fix the "latest posts" and rss feeds on the front page.

Excellent work Jools.

My only reservation is that it isn't immediately obvious where one post ends and the next one begins. They are different colours, but there is very little contrast.

Also, the clog tags don't appear to be working yet.

[Racoll: I just "disabled" the "Disable BBCode" in this post, and it works - not sure if that's what you intended or not].

I know (from reading in the Moderators "secret" forum) that old posts have problems with clog tags, but new posts should work - it works in my previous post and Jools also posted a correct clog tag.

Attempt here:

Not working still (worked in my other post a few minutes ago though).

Keeps saying BBCode is off, despite setting it to enable in the preferences.

Can you go back and edit your post to see if you can enable BBCode in your post?

Also check your profile settings [user control panel] to check if you have BBCode set to disabled by default, perhaps?

Didn't let me edit the BBCode settings in the previous post.

The "Enable BBCode by default" setting in "User Control Panel>Board preferences>Edit posting defaults" is set to "yes".

I'll try rebooting my PC.

Mats edit:
Slightly annoying, but as a moderator, I can modify the BBCode settings.

Jools, can you check if there is some setting that makes this forum different from others? Is there settings in the bbcode "allowance" in

Still no BBCode.

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.11

Most odd as it works fine for me!

I've not finished with the colours or style generally - for now most of it works, the priority is to get the smaller broken things fixed and then get onto the style.

Exactly the same in IE.

Am I the only person with this problem?

I have tried to create myself a different user, but I haven't got the user application approved. Unfortunately, SKY has broken my broadband at home, so I can't try from home. Can you try in "Speak-easy" for example?

Good thinking Mats.

Works fine in the Loricariidae forum.

It would appear so. I find it pretty odd - I've been through the admin settings and can't see anything obvious although I think it MUST be in there as even quoting your broken clog tag makes it work!

Seems like in this forum, the BBCode works for mods (Mats & Jools) but not for "regular folk" like Dave Rinaldo and I.

Racoll,

This is a real shot in the dark, but try putting a signature perhaps with some bbcode in it in via your profile...

Nope.

The sig appears in the other forums, but not in this one.

Racoll,

The forum permissions model in the new version is a LOT more complex than previously. Also, we had a pretty complex set-up in the old forum which is going to be difficult to unravel. However, I have now made some changes to the forum permissions generally - try editing a problem post above and see if it's any better?
