Hi all, once ain turn to those in the know to help me out.

I have had this bearded gent for a while now and believe it to be a S. barbatum.
We dont get the most reliable info here in Australia on species and capture locations for W/C stock.
Any help would as always be greatly appreciated.

Looking at the photos on cat-elog it appears to be Sturisoma nigrirostrum , I had 3 the same size (approx 20cm), two paired off and bred but I lost them after a discus parasitic disease cleaned out most of my tank, this guy was covered in red lesions and I almost lost him, now he a loner but I hope to get a hold of a female in the near future :beardy:

I would say is the most likely candidate, as these are a much commonly exported species, but is very similar so you can't rule it out. The ways to tell them apart don't seem too reliable.
:D

It has taken a while, but Earl as I have taken to calling this stunning male is looking more and more like a Sturisoma nigrirostrum , after his near death ordeal, he has really developed the dark colouration under the rostrum.

Thanks for the help racoll, now to locate him a good looking lady.

Regards,
Brett

They come out of Iquitos, so keep an eye on those Peru imports...

We are just lucky to get fish into this country, let alone capture locations :(

I have started to ask around though so fingers crossed.
