First time with Corys

Hello,

I am newbie to the site although I have had catfish for awhile. By the way, just love the Cat-eLog :D . It has helped me make some informed decisions about the catfish in my tank.

At present I have:

1 spotted raphael cat
5 synodontis petricola
5 synodontis multipunctatus
3 parotinclus
a number of otocinclus
and now, 2 cory cats (they were a rescue from someone who was tearing his/her tanks down).

They are the ones I have a question about. I would like to get them some buddies because I know they like to shoal. However, do the other corys have to be the same species or will they be happy shoaling with other species.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

First, I have a question for you. Are all these cats in the same tank? Corys require different water parameters than the Syno's you mention. Further, I believe that corys will be harrassed by the Syno's.

Thanks for checking. No they are in separate tanks. The corys are in an SA tetra tank at the moment.

In that case, corys of different species sometimes will school together. Many hobbyists mix different species together in a community tank. However, if you are able to add more of the species you currently have they certainly will school together.

Thank you. I guess I was just wondering if they would be happier schooling with conspecifics or if it really doesn't matter to them. I know that although my petricolas will hang out with the multipunctatus, they prefer being together.
