Hey,
what about
S. melanostictus and
S. nigromaculatus? Both are valid species now as well and melanostictus is endemic to Lake Tanganyika drainage
Regards.

Hi Worton,
I don't quite understand what you are trying to say. Could you explain your remark pls?

I split this one from the previous thread on S. dhonti, as it's a separate validation of species names, and Jools needs to do that.
As I understand, Wright & Page, 2006, recognise S. melanostictus as a separate species from S. nigromaculatus - but I'm not 100% sure from my 5 minutes of looking at the subject.
Just to clarify: S. nigromaculatus is in the Cat-eLog, with S. melanostictus as a junior synonym.

Ah, okay. I was in fact looking for a link with S. dhonti, but couldn't find it for - by now - obvious reasons.
I'll look into it. Thanks both for the tip and explanation.

Hey,
I also should have few photos of syno melanostictus. Well when we took them melanostictus was still a synonym however photos are of a WC fish from Lufubu - probably a melanostictus. I can search for them if you want

You can, based on Wright & Page (2006) Synodontis melanostictus is valid.
I'll remove the synonym in S. nigromaculatus.
