Well I took the pics from the fish store of the "assorted synos" it's with a cell phone so not so great. There reallly aren't alot of synos around where I live so I get excited to go visit these. Can you tell me what they are?













I couldn't get a pic of the vampire pleco it was hidden under driftwood. I will try again.
I think of the above pics that 3, 4 and 6 might be eupterus? But they aren't charcoal gray like mine, they are more yellow greenish.

1 and 2 is Auchenoglanis occidentalis. 3, 4 and 6 is eupterus, 5 maybe S. notata(notatus) but better picture would be a big help with that one.

Most likely this but could be one of the other Auchenoglanis species as juveniles have this pattern in different species if I remember correctly
picture five can not see very well...too blurry for me
And the others are eupterus as you say...the slightly different color may be from the brighter environment that these are in or possibly diet related

Jippo is correct with the ID's - notatus is the fish with the larger spots, Eupterus as the others - it doesn't look to be the best example i've seen by a long way

The Auchenoglanis is perhaps one to avaoid due to it's tankbusting maximum size & ability to shift copious amounts of substrate - one for the very few who can provide massive tanks (& not just a 6x2x2!)

After looking again & again the notatus might be a hybrid - it isn't a good photo - but the dorsal looks the wrong shape & there appears to be the dorsal body hump that appears on many hybrids

I thought the big eupterus' looked sad also. I will bring a real camera next time and take better pics of the one that might be notatus. And I will take pics of some plecos.

Yeah...that is why I would like to see a better picture...I just get tired of bringing up the H word even though they are here to stay

hybrids are more than ever starting to closely resemble actual species which is more of a concern, (like "valentine"). It was just about bearable when they were clearly not genuine but is really worrying me now. This notatus may be genuine, but from poor quality, commercially bred stock?

Well I thought I got some more pics of that one fish but now that I am posting them I see it's a different colour substrate. So I guess I will post them anyways? Either they moved him or it's a diff syno altogether.

Or they get thrown in with some boisterous fish (read usually cichlids) and left to fend for themselves which can take it's toll as well

Is it not Barbonymus schwanenfeldii (Tinfoil Barb)

Just to clarify, the Barb with the black edge running along the outer edge of its caudal is slightly obscured by another barb with reddish fins ! I've kept Barbs for years and for some reason i cant put a name to it ,Birger i can understand your guess at a Tinfoil , but i've never seen one with a black outer edging to its caudal !

The reddish-finned barb looks like a Barbonymus, presumably schwanenfeldi although several Barbonymus are similar-looking. The barb with the leading black edges might be Poropuntius malcolmi?

Yes you are right, I knew there was black but I had it in the wrong place...I was going by memory which I should never ever do

I finally got back to the fish store. On the tank, which may not mean anything really, but on the tank it says the following:

silver dollar
Red Hook
Tin foil barb

So it could be any of those?

Ok Andy thanks for looking for me , the fish is a Tinfoil , the black edge is actually RED ,oooop's SORRY !
