It was suggested by a member who read my previous description that pictures were necessary.

I will include a link. Here is some info on the fish:
About 7" body.
14 ray dorsal
Lyre tail
Body is crayola crayon grey and has cream dots.
Likes raw veggies, but does not clean glass or ornaments. Loves carnivore wafers and raw meat.

I really would like ideas, I want to give the pleco to someone else if it IS the P. Anisitsi.

If it is a more common pleco, I will keep it.

So please, in the effort of species conservation, would someone please help?

Thanks!!!

Looks like that to me too

It is also unlikely to be P. anisitsi from the standpoint that the P. anisitsi is from an area that is very rare to see exports from, whilst P. joselimaianus is commonly found in shops and is bred by commercial breeders in both Asia and North America.

I have added more pictures. they are night vision, so they are much more clear, but not in color. The cats pattern is very clear. To me it does not look like a gold spot on snout or belly. It came in at the same time as a batch of L168 and "commons"

Thanks. Pics are at same link as above.

Definitely P. joselimaianus, IMO. Pattern can be variable at differing sizes, so it can be risky to use that as the sole indicator for identification.

I appreciate the help. So I now have an L001.
At least knowing what it is, I can now provide for its needs- or at least for a while. Its in my 20G. It does not seem to like community life, and is much happier being an only pleco.

Can anyone tell from the pics if its male or female?

Thanks!!

In my opinon, it would be happier in a bigger tank - something in the range above 55g would be ok for a 7" fish, but ultimately it will need at least 75-100g.

That's pretty hard, you have to look at the "bits" (the genital papillae, which would either be pointed [male] or rounded [female]). It makes little sense to know other than for curiosity, however, since they need huge amount of room to breed.
