Euro 2008

As is now traditional (see world cup 2006) and possibly due to the fact that I'm still smarting from VERY narrow defeat to Justin in this seasons Premier League fantasy football, I've set up a league for this forthcoming event.

It's all free. Just register at and join the league called "catfish" with a password of, wait for it, "catfish" too.

Start here: http://eurofantasyfootball.metro.co.uk/

Cheers,

Jools

I'll have to try to regain my mojo, as my fantasy Premier Leauge team suffered horribly from the (apparently) unwise choice to NOT field any Manchester United players. Seeing as Man City is in the pits (again) ... I can choose a team unencumbered by the yoke of "ragdom".

I'll throw the gantlet down!

Well, get selecting - not long to go now. After our qualifying campaign, I'm gutted Scotland aren't there - but at least we gave France (who are apparently favourites) & Italy a run for their money.

I think Scotland could be on the verge of something good at the moment - given the relatively low player pool i think they've done really well recently.

Although this sort of thing isn't my forte i have (i think) submitted a team, & will generously allow you all to applaud me when (if) i win  Ha Ha Ha - history dictates i am pathetic when it comes to these fantasy leagues :(

Of course, I couldn't get in to the site to finalise the league memberships. Metro have been having some problems with it:
Metro wrote:Hi,

We're sorry some of you have experienced problems with the fantasy football game.

Our game supplier, SilentManager, experienced technical problems which affected the speed of the site on Sunday & Monday.

All teams are temporarily unable to view their mini-league, however they remain in their league and will still gain points accordingly.

By way of a gesture of good will to game players we would like to give all teams a bonus two transfers for the Quarter-Final stage of the competition. All teams will now receive 12 transfers at 00.01 BST on 19th June 2008 which may be used for the four Quarter-Final matches.

Again, we apologise for any problems that you have experienced and we hope that you will shortly be able to view your mini-league.

Good luck with the rest of the game!
I will get it sorted out as soon as it is possible, but as it says you can score points and transfer players as normal.

I just witnessed the second win of the Dutch team. Beforehand I would have expected them to end third or last in their group, but they are doing pretty well atm :D

Yup, and with van Persie and Robben coming back from injury, they look very strong now.

The Metro fantasy football site has had a lot of problems which is pretty disappointing. The mini leagues appear to be working now.

I have to agree, I didn't fully understand them until recently either - they are a bit unusual!

A bit disappointed atm but a fair win for the Russians, due to some very good players and a very clever (Dutch) coach. A tough opponent for the winner of Italy vs Spain.

Normally I would agree, but I've drawn Italy in the work sweepstake. So, it's Peroni and not San Miguel on the menu tonight.

Final Eurocup 2008:
Russia Vs Turkey!

Mediterran football is history.
same for what we call in Dutch "voor de pot lig voetbal", wich means it's like 1 goalie, 8 defenders and a lone midfield and a lone attacker.
it's unwatchable, really. pain on the eyes.

the kind of football Romenia was tryin', for example. Italy and Germany been playing this same style for years.

shame the Dutch didn't keep up the active attacking style they've been using against Italy, france and Romania.
worked pretty well.

but against Russia they fell back in some sort of "Cruyff football" and boy did they get their arse kicked (yes, i've been watching a load of football lately).
shame really. if they played like when they played against france, Russia would have been home by now.

Guus is indeed a genius. he proved it with Korea, PSV, Australia etc....now with Russia
probably the world's best football coach at the moment.

how effective his style is is the simple fact that the Dutch Cup has been residing in Eindhoven for years now, Ajax from Amsterdam doesn't stand a chance. Ajax been playin' "Cruyff/Italian style" football for ages and boy does it helkp them....not

no, it'll be Russia Vs Turkey

Russia because it's a great team and Guus is a genius
Turkey because they got spirit up to HERE and they never give up, not even when all odds are against them

and fighting spirit makes up for a LOT

gogogo  :beardy:

Sadly true. However one nation is world champion and the other is now in the Euro 2008 final. That's the worst German side I've seen in 25 years and they are still in the final. Or at least I think so as most of the second half I had to listen to the radio.

yup

:(
too bad. really. another victory for anti-football.
not that I have a thing against Germans. I just really don't like their playing style

Turkey up there with the Russians would be a fresh breeze for the sport

the worst that can happen now is when Spain beats the Russians
that would be back to the drawing board with watching matches that ain't utterly bored or highly annoying

at least this game had 5 goals, wich is really good compared to 0-0 and the winning goal in extra time after 30 minutes overtime.

So it's Spain and Germany in the final tonight. Who are we supporting? From Sid's post get I the impression that neither is popular this year.

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I haven't actually watched any of the matches yet, so I don't know how well people are playing. May the best team win... It looks very equal so far. 1-0 to Spain Torres, 33' :o :) :D

It was all down to transfers and even I didn't get close to the office winner - he scored 398! Ah quiet now for a few weeks until the premiership starts.
