I have a small lor. cat that I am having trouble identifying. Are there any general rules of thumb that might help me at least get the genus correct?I am thinking it's a Parotocinclus or Otocinclus.Any help is appreciated.Thanks.

Any chance of posting a pic? It's darn near impossible to identify it to genus without one.

Parotocinclus HAS an anal fin, Otocinclus doesn't. Parotocinclus gets larger than 3 cm, Otocinclus doesn't. Several other differences, but these two should get you started.

That's funny...I thought all fishes have an anal fin. You mean an adipose fin?

Hi,
Parotocinclus gets larger than 3 cm, Otocinclus doesn't.
What about the dwarves of the Parotocinclus longirostris group? There are about the smallest Loricariids known. :)
