Ithink its a Synodontis, but which one ? there is over 50 !?

Maybe you guys can help me out.

For info, a frien,d gave me his aquarium before leaving to Spain, its 26gallons (80cmx30cmx40cm)
It was too small for a Pleco, what about this one ?

It would be slightly on the large side for a 100 x 30 x 40 tank, but you'll be OK if you don't overstock the tank and change water regularly.

As to "pleco", there are about 700 species of Loricariidae in the Cat-eLog, and they range in size from a couple of centimeters to nearly a meter in adult size. There are certainly several that would fit in a tank like the above one, but there are also those that wouldn't even have space to lay in the tank without being bent almost double... If you also select "sort by hits", you'll get the ones that are most popular to look at on this site - which is normally the ones that are most popular to keep.

how should I feed it ?

They are fairly adaptable...pellet food is good, some of the usual frozen foods bought at a LFS are great as well, if it seems a bit skittish drop the food in when you turn out the lights.I am not sure what your experience with fish is so forgive me if I am stating the obvious but it is always best to feed smaller amounts until you figure out how much they actually need.

but isn't 100L/26gallons a little bit short for them ?

I'll try to feed it what u told me. I'm glad its not one of this plecomontrus that can reach up to 60cm, or does it too ? :'(

Description: Commonly misidentified in the trade. Contaminants often include S. nigriventris and small juveniles of many West African Synodontis species. S. nigrita has a dark gray background with black spots on the body and fins, giving it a ''lace-like'' appearance, hence the common name: ''lace catfish''. Humeral process ends in a point, sweeping up in a curve on the bottom edge. Sometimes swims in an inverted position.

The general rule that I follow for tank-size is 4L x 2L x 2L, so the max size you would want is about 150mm (since the shortest side of the tank is 300mm, and 2L = 300mm -> L = 150mm). But a max size of about 7" (175 mm) is probably close enough that you can get away with it for a fair amount of time.

i've been keeping 1 nigrita for over 4 years now. was a really fussy eater in the beginning, so i had to experiment with various foods - but eventually, i found out my nigrita loves hikari brand freeze dried ocean plankton (didn't care much for bloodworms and brineshrimps) and surprisingly, floating cichlid pellets (not sure if this is the best food for the fish, but my nigrita loves them and ignores the regular catfish pellets)! it almost never comes out and eat when the lights are on, so i just feed them after i turn off the lights. hope this helps!
