my daughter caught a tiny Yellow Bullhead in a New England lake last July which now lives in a 10 gallon tank and is approaching his/her 1st birthday so we thought it may be time to find out the gender...

what suggestions ? No others to compare to.

He/she is also missing one whisker not sure why.

Males should have an elongate, conical genital papilla that is not present in the females. Not sure if yellow bullheads mature by the first year, though (literature seems to indicate thaty they mature by the second year).
