I was wondering what catfish and other tankmates you could recommend with chaca chaca's? The plant is to keep 4 in a 40 gal breeder. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Obviously nothing small enough or slow enough to become dinner!
I suppose mid to high water active fish, maybe mid size barbs?

Pantodon bucholzi butterflyfish are good as they are a good size & mostly stay at the water surface - chaca can eat some surprisingly large fish!

Ideal tank mates should be large, peaceful & slow moving - barbs tend to need a shoal & some can be a bit boisterous.

I was going to say Pantodon, but be warned, the Chaca may still have a go at them.

They stay at the surface 99% of the time, but sometimes they dart down to the bottom when you startle them.

Indeed they do & a full grown chaca could easily snack on one. Additionally my chaca used to spend 99% of its time at the water surface resting in uprooted echinodoras plants. I have some other suggests but they are unusual fish that seldom are seen so i thought i'd not bother including them - Citharinus citharus citharus , Distichodus including rostratus & Noboli, but NOT sexfasciatus or lusosso
