Google searches on relevance, but also on recent changes. Further a difference is made between countries (If I want something from Germany, I use google.de instead of google.nl). Perhaps the status of the site -Planetcatfish.com in this case, also matters.
If I search my name, I always find postings on fora, but a certain one from 2005 always pops up in top 20

. The search routines of google are kept secret, as these are commercially relevant. (we all want to be on the first page, and most perfectly high on that one, if not on place 1)

Google works by effectively counting links, and Planet Catfish, being an established and very well regarded website has many many links to it (maybe Jools can tell you how many).
Therefore it is very likely to show up right at the top of any catfish related search.
I think a reason your thread came up so high, is that you used similar search terms as in your thread. If you type the full name in to Google, i.e. "wild caught
synodontis petricola", Planet Catfish doesn't appear until the second page. I didn't look far enough to find your thread.
I think the Google searching has got pretty sophisticated, so I can't tell you exactly how it spotted your thread after only three days, as your thread is unlikely to have any direct links.

I don't think this is too unusual. I can see a few of my (or for example Sidguppy's) posts if i do a search for breeding synodontis granulosus or similar. These "subjets" are really quite specialised with not a 'massive' amount of information available so you will find yourself before long!!!
I always thought the 'net was a limitless supply of information about everything (or as good as). My dad mentioned a variety of dwarf narcissus (like a dafodill) that a good friend of his was trying to get hold of (spanish, not exported these days). A whole day of surfing failed to come up with a pic of the exact variety & i could only find 3 references with virtually no information. I did find that there were about half a dozen sub-varieties that varied in physical appearance tremendously but no real joy on what i really was after.
The 'net if astoundingly huge but not the be-all & end-all of everything (silurid/mochokid/synodontid)!
ps - Racoll is sooooo much better at explaining some things

You only find things on the interent someone put there first, which might sometimes be a large disappointment. I just tried to book a bus in Spain - but failed.
Especially in our hobby, we know we are with only a few. Therefore a forum as this one is so good: the few people really interested in catfish in each country can nevertheless communicate and learn from each other.

I was torn between moving this to "resolved" and "speak easy" - in th end the more generic forum "won".
