Finally was able to some Calophysus macropterus as well. Just having a lot of luck finding the catfish that I want as of late.

I have to say these cats are totally awesome. I was able to get two of them, and I absolutely love them. These pictures were taken the day I got them, since then they have really beefed and colored up. I haven't taken any new pictures since I got them in September, so until can get some new pictures these will have to work for now. Hope ya enjoy them as much as I do.

I cought some of these in Peru and Brazil. They make a good soup accordning to the locals.

They seems to breed near land where te deep si between 2- 3 meters. In thises areas there are aboundant of plants.
We caught gravide females and they had thousands off white-yellow eggs that where around 1 mm
Sadly we didn't caught enough of them to tell the sex charactheristics.
The bottom areas consisted of sand and mud.

I only have two at the moment, trying to locate a few more. I actually have found another one in Florida, I am tempted to get it even though its a few inches larger than mine. They do seem to bicker a bit amongst themselves, but its nothing serious. I was planning on having a group of them in a 300gal tank with a few larger cichlids. Thats the idea anyway. For being so common, they shore are difficult to find for sale.

That would be cool if he wants to use my photos. Can't say they are of the best quality, but I would be honored. I plan on taking a few new pictures here soon, perhaps he would like to use those instead? They are still fairly small, but have really colored up, its amazing how much. Almost a different fish now. Use any pictures ya like though.

I have copied the details of submitting photos below ( you might want to label pics, new introductions, same fish when settled a week later etc)

It would help if you send images for one species per email
If we have, say, twelve images of a species, you'll have to come up with something better or new to what is already there to likely have the image used. That said, it might show something new and all twelve images are great and I don't want to change them and so we can add anything up to about 60 images per species. This is unusual though.
It's REALLY helpful if you name the image files along the lines of nanobagrus_nebulosus.jpg, panaque_maccus(male).jpg and so on. Or you can just list all the filenames in the email and explain what they are.
If you don't know what species your fish is, try getting it identified here.
Try a couple out first before sending your entire collection!"

As you increase the size of your group, any differences in size become less important. 2 individuals often is not a good number as ultimately one fish will dominate the other.

Even if a fish is common in the wild they can be hard to obtain - it is dependant upon demand in the trade & even if you want some really badly, you might be the only one & in the same exporter box he can get a bunch of corys or apisto's which will sell straight away (as an example)

Thanks, I'll get on that and try to send him some pictures. Perhap I will wait till I have some more recent ones. I just looked at all the pictures though, and all of them are swimming left, .

I would have gotten more of them, but at the time he only had two. Am working on getting more though. You said as I grow my group size won't matter. What about if I find some that are 8 to 10" smaller than the other ones?

I would make sure the smallest one was at least over half the size of the largest

I had one of these loverly catfish but it did live up to its name. In a six foot tank it would eat all the fish food till it was beachball shaped then throw it all back up again. In the end I had to drop in a BIG piece of fish that blocked his mouth up and then feed the other fish normaly while he struggled with that!

They are pretty cool looking Catfish.

Here are some updated pictures that I took last night. I didn't clean the glass, because it was kind of a spur of the moment lucky chance thing. As you can see, they have really put on some size and colored up since I got them in September.

Send an e-mail to the webmaster at planetcatfish dot com, with your full name and username and species of the fish (as you can imagine, when your inbox has 100 e-mails, it is easier to know which is what by reading in the mail rather than trying to figure out what it is).

Thanks guys, they are pretty dope catfish for sure. I really would just like to have a larger group of them. Perhaps I will, determination is a winner! Patience is close second!

You think he would want/use the pictures? I checked out the Vulture profile, looks like there are already a bunch of great photos there already... He would have to edit out my watermark/sig cuz its the only picture I have. Deleted the originals already....

Yes - i think your shots have a lot of value as they are juvies & cat-e-log has mostly large adult shots

you have 2 and they're not agressive? that's what's baffling me
usually with the larger catfishes 2 is not a good number.
many large Pims are fircely territorial. 2 Leiarius or 2 large Pimelodus can fight a lot.

looks like this "vulture' is quite relaxed when it comes to this.

Completely agree with Sid. Only slight drawback is that the ultimate adult size is about half a meter, so it requires a decent size tank - but not completely impossible size!

They do squabble from time to time, but its mostly over food stuff. Like when they try to eat the same piece of food... They actually chill together a lot of the time. I was worried about the aggression issues as well, but so far they are doing pretty well together.

Quick little update. I believe I may have found four more of these beautiful fish to add to my collection. They are all about 9", which is about the same size as mine. Should get pictures and prices tomorrow, and I'll go from there. The little pack may just be growing.
