Well, this depends on how you measure the fish. The largest recorded size for this species is about 7.5" SL (without the caudal fin) and 10" TL (with the caudal fin).

ahhh, ok.....well my baby is 9" TL......hmmmm, so I guess it's possible he could grow a touch more perhaps....

I'm assuming fairly well aged based on that syno's don't seem to grow fast....

Upon double checking, it seems that the largest recorded size is 55 cm TL (about 22"), so it looks like there's a lot more room for growth in your syno.

wow, and now I think he's an impressive fish.
Can just imagine him at 20+"......definately a centerpiece fish.
He will be going in a 110g tank with some other large, or to be large fish. He is definately a welcome additon.

May I ask where you generally get your information from?

From scientific literature. For synos, my main sources are the syno "bible" (Max Poll's 1971 revision of Synodontis) and CLOFFA (Checklist of the Freshwater Fishes of Africa).
