does anyone remember the thread on someone trying to get their common identified where someone put some excellant info on different belly patterns? Silirus or racoli maybe? I have been searching and searching and I thought i bookmarked it but didn't. It described the diff swirls or patterns very well.

That should be in the Cat-eLog under or - in fact, I just checked and P. pardalis has a link to a Zootaxa document describing the differences.

yes, that Zoo taxa is great but this was in someones writing in the text of a post of a thread and it was so good. Was more helpful even then Zootaxa is that's possible.

I do not recall such a post. However, this illustrates the differences more clearly.

Don't recall ever going into more detail than one in spotted and one is squiggly, but as long as the fish is over about 6" it seems to work.

no, but thank you. It was in someones post who was trying to id their fish, so I have been searching what is my catfish but i cannot locate it. it was someones answer and it was so great.

Well, the simple answer is that a "swirly pattern" is a P. disjunctivus, spotted is P. pardalis (and we're following the BLACK pattern, not the white, as one could consider teh P. pardalis to have a swirily white patter, and a P. disjunctivus to have white spots on the belly).

Silurus's link is better than the Cat-eLog link, but both are clear on the difference.

I think that is my main problem , the black from the white.
