I HAVE WIGGLERS!!!!!

i managed to save about 60 peppered cory eggs (nothing too exciting, though this was their first spawn) and they are currently hatching. this started yesterday evening. the fry are so tiny! i read the sticky, so im not here to ask questions. just thought id share the news

Any spawning event should be heralded & not overlooked or considered a "mere trifle" - well done

im really thrilled. they arent a difficult cory to breed, but the only other fish ive bred successfully are live bearers. im amazed by the development of the fry. live bearer fry are so much more developed than cory fry.

a pile of fry and empty shells. there are still a few unhatched eggs in there as well

little boogers are spawning again! i came home to see them spawn and place about 9 eggs on the glass. however, it was the smaller female who was spawning and she wasnt fat at all. so i doubt ill get many eggs. im going to leave them be for now

and i now have 31 fry and 21 eggs left to hatch

congrats!! my cories laid eggs all the time but I never saw any live babies from it! Good job!!

ok, so there were roughly another 30 eggs on the glass and plants when i came home. they look good, so i moved down to the sump in the breeder box to incubate in the dark. if any are viable, they will be added to the assortment in the breeder net. *sigh* i feel like such a bleeding heart!

and i noticed one wiggler in the gravel that i know i didnt misplace. im thinking i missed a few eggs in the plants and one hatched. it disappeared into the gravel. i hope i see it again :/

the final count for this first batch is 52

how often do paleatus cories spawn?! i have 2 females and 2 males. this is the third time ive found eggs in my tank in the space of a week!

First off, congrats on the spawn & the wrigglers! It's a real buzz isn't it

Three or four times a week sounds about right for spawning frequency. Once mine first spawned (about 18 months back), that seemed to be their average. The fry I originally raised reached maturity at about 10-11 months old & since then, the odds are that on any given day, at least one of the females will spawn.
Left to their own devices, mine eat most of the eggs and (I suspect) newly hatched fry so the population shouldn't get out of control without some effort on your part. That said, I have two fish which appeared out of no where. (& very welcome they are too).

this is what i did with the third spawn. and theyve been subsequently nibbled on overnight. i kind of feel bad, but my tank can only handle so many! i think ill get over it quickly.

now, if my emeralds would just spawn...

Congratulations. Exciting news, and not at all 'nothing new'!! I've never had corys breed - you should be proud!
