Hi all,
I am new to the planet and have a few questions for experienced cory owners. I have a 40g breeder tank. I currently have 1 peppered cory in there and he is lonely. I have a colony of corys in my 100 gallon tank it is 14 emerald cory. I am wondering how many of the emeralds I could comforatbly fit in the 40g tank? Will they school with the lonley peppered cory? Thanks

Welcome to Planet Catfish. Austin is one of my favourite places - been there many times (I used to work for AMD).

The "how many of fish X can I fit in a Y size tank" is not one that can be answered directly. I'd say that 14 corys in a 40g tank is fine - I keep a group of 5 in a tank that is 60 liter (about 15 gal), with a small group of Black Neons in there too, and they are happy enough to spawn in that tank.

Not sure if "Emerald cory" is or (or something else, perhaps).

My tank has a 36"x18" foot print. It will have the corys and 8 or so livebearers and 1 male betta. I am pretty positive that they are brochis splendens. So you think that all 14 would be happy there? It is slowly being planted and I have a few places for them to hide/rest with a decent current. thanks

HI
Thanks for the welcome. I don't know if we have met.

I would have thought that a 36" x 18" tank would be great for Brochis splendens, and as long as the livebearer babies are removed at a regular basis, I'd say it's fine.
