Can any Eel-cats live with pims? Thinking pis in lieu of the Juruense, Tigrinus, and Lima.

strictly speaking yes - what sort of pims? I often prefer to not mix different continents but it can be done quite successfully as long as careful consieration is given to the mix & he requiremnets of the species

Apart from the water conditon, the eel cat may become food for your pims.

Well, that's why I'm asking on what kinds of eel cats would also work with Pimelodids.

The Pims in question are Juruense, Lima, Sailfin and Tigrinus.

What's an eel-cat?
Clarias? Gymnallabes? Channallabes? Plototus?

cause if you take Clarias gariepinus, it's going to be reverse; that one will eat your pims etc

it's a non issue

big plotosid eel cats are marine fishes and will always be unsuitable for a freshwater tank.

Don't Anodontiglanis dahli, Neosiluroides cooperensis, Neosilurus ater, and Tandanus tandanus get to sizes that would keep them safe from at least the Lima? Aren't all that I stated Freshwater?

I'm a bit baffled why you are so hell bent on this.

if yoy really like eel cats so much, set up a tank for them.

and now you're talking about a Sorubim lima. lima's are significant smaller than tigrinus or other Brachyplatystoma's.
the length in the catelog of Merodontotus tigrinus is too small; i've seen for myself a live specimen that was at least 75-80 cm TL and it had a wide gape.
any slim 40 cm eelshaped fish would end up as a noodle

lastly; 3 out of the 4 species you name are native and endemic to the Australian mainland.

now Australia has a decades old ban on exporting any native wildlife, with the sole exeption of captive bred specimen; the list of captive bred animals that originate there and can be legally exported is quite short.

chances of getting those fish are very very remote.

so if you have a chance of getting such a rare fish, why cram it in a tank with a potential predator?

I can't for the life imagine why anyone would do that.

Although you can mix such fish, i personally think such a mix you are considering is an 'incident' waiting to happen.

If the tank is big enough, some large pims can be mixed with reasonable success. But Sid has the best suggestion of a separate tank for the aussie cats - this is just soooooo much a better idea for many reasons, but all of the reasons are for the benefit of the captive fish. (Habits, tank decor, etc)

Tig's can also get bigger as Sid has mentioned, the biggest i've seen was approx 85cm. I've seen them snap at fish they obviously couldn't consume, but if they did it at something that they could.....
