Would $56 each be alot for L91's at 3-5" ? I am trying to price them up and that would be with shipping included.

They are not common in the trade, IMO. First I ever saw was last Friday at B.A.S. If I remember rightly, they were in the "fairly expensive" price-range, and in the same size-range as yours. They certainly wheren't the "Well, at that price, I could get half a dozen without even getting my debit card out" price range.

Since they aren't common, it's a bit hit and miss as to what is a good price (it's much easier to say when it's fish you see every week).

It's hard to say.

The reason is that although we can work out an exchange rate, the availability varies in different countries meaning the price is relative to availability - ie - if a fish is common in the UK & costs £5, it might be rare in the states & cost $50, so we say, "whoa that's expensive" but in reality it might be $100 in other US of A shops, ergo the $50 fish is actually cheap "over there".

I also think a 5" fish should be a fair bit more than a 3" fish as these only grow 1.5" per year & that should reflect on the price.

It sounds a lot to me BUT if you want a fish badly enough, it is worth what you are prepared to pay for it.

I was hoping to get 3 and keep them in my 45 XTall tank until they out grew it. Then they could move into basically any other SA tank I have.

Not looking in the right places lol. have seen about 20 in 2 different shops sunday and today ranging from £26-£65

Of course - if a shipment comes in, then there's likely to be more than three specimens. £65 sounds like the price at B.A.S.

"safe" in what sense? They do not grow very quickly (according to Jools, 1.5" per year), so you should be fine keeping them in a "not so large" tank for quite some time.

Hmm.. not the debate starts. 164 for 3 L91's or 95 for 3 L201's... I really think the L91's would be much better to me.

I personally dig 201s. I will be getting a group of them someday. However, I've recently been looking into 91s- for when I have a larger tank (which won't be for awhile). I think 91s would be fine in your 45 for some time, though.

I still have my original trio of L201's, not sure of sexes yet, but if i can get clear views I will sex them shortly. I would LOVE to get the L91's, but the price really scares me.

$56 or whatever including delivery really isn't all that bad, IMO. Especially for such a rare plec. If you don't mind, PM me the name of the place or a link. I'm not going to buy them. I just want to see if it is the place that I know of that is selling them, then go from there. I'm trying to resist the urge to buy/search for plecos for myself, so I think I will direct that impulse into searching for other peoples' fish...lol.

Too bad the pond is in the way. You guys have access to soo many fish I would love to keep ( and I just missed out tonight on an opportunity to own the paraoto. eppifiy... so PIST!! it was a group of 12!!!)

BTW, I may be going out collecting some tadpole madtoms, which I guess is rare over there in Europe.
