They are for a 300l mudskipper tank. I know, there are some plotosus, but are there some others arent there?

I am afraid most suitable catfish end up over 20 cm, such as the following, which would be considered brackish cats and obtainable.









There are some salt tolerant freshwater cats, again most being a larger size but I would not think it would be comfortable for them.

Ive got 2% Salt in the water. Hexanematichthys seemanni grows to large. The same with Platystacus cotylephorus. The 2 others are quiet rare, I think. Thanks for your help.

Aspredo get a fair bit larger than Platystacus......

Mystus gulio reaches a foot and a half, surpassing Aspredo in length and definitely more bulky.

Platystacus is the smallest of the list!

Are there some Plotosus under 20cm

Don't know anything about these fish but if you use the advanced search and plug in Ploto family and under 200mm you get three kinds.

Is it true, that they are so venomous, that they could kill a human? It sounds scary!!!

Some marine plotosus are extremely venomous & care must be emphasised for keepers to be vary at all times - plus they are shoalers by nature & need to be in a group when young. On the plus side -i've seen them for very little money - circa £5 each

Actually this does sound more like another down side: anyone canafford to keep the fish, while hardly noone will be able to survide keeping them long

I've encountered Plotosus during diving and they're like Lionfish...they swim right up to you, not shy at all.....

typical behaviour for a fish with such venomenous weaponry. it doesn't need to run off when threatened.

they might not be lethal all the time but I'll bet if you get sting during a dive and you're like 30 meters down, chances are slim you'll reach the surface alive

it's the combination of being poisoned, diving, possibilities of the bends if you come up too fast; the whole picture

someone standing in a room next to a phone who gets stung by one of these during tankmaintenance in a westernized suburb has a far greater chance of surviving it in one piece than any diver will; I think that is where the true danger lies with these.

they occur at many depths; any I've seen was during night-dives at any depth between 25-40 meters/75-120 feet down.

another great danger might be when you're a native fisherman in a dug out canoo and you houl up a net full of fish and there's your local toxic surprise lurking in between the edable fish, the nearest village is like six hours of steady rowing, the nearest hospital is a flight away and you just grabbed a bunch of mullet and there were those damnable spines in between...

that's another occasion when stings of Plotosus go for the bodycount I think.

Don't. This is just one of the things you have to watch out for. FW Stingray keepers have to concern themselves with these all the time.

Just as long as you are careful (I repeat, CAREFUL) and you'll be fine.
